COLGATE AVENUE

Project description:

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

This new construction home in University Park, Texas was originally a spec home. It was purchased new by our clients and one of their priorities was to make the exterior more finished and better fitting to their needs and lifestyle. The builder provided a great canvas to start, including limestone and brick front walkway, gas lanterns, and brick retaining wall. In the front yard, we were able to add properly scaled plantings with a monochromatic planting palette. In the backyard we designed a fountain that also serves as a heated therapy spa, an open lawn, a shade structure, and plentiful open lawn for kids to play.

FRONT YARD

Guests are welcomed at curbside by antique brick columns with gas lanterns and steps leading up to the main lawn area. The paving design utilizes both antique brick and limestone to create rhythm along the walk from the street to the front porch. The landscape has a linear design in a monochromatic palette of green and white. The front architectural bay window is adorned with a massing of limelight hydrangea and a specimen Japanese Maple The front door is accented with Restoration Hardware zinc finished planters and boxwood topiary.

BACK YARD

This small backyard was all about maximizing space and creating function. The main lawn area is covered in artificial turf to provide 365 days a year of mud-free use. Plus, artificial turf can also function just like a paved surface so it gave the space tons of flexibility. To extend the back porch and provide additional shade, an arbor structure was designed along the west side-yard. It utilizes the antique brick and large cedar beams. The water-feature functions both as a decorative fountain, plunge-pool, and spa. Its heated and has interior bench seats. The water-spouts were custom designed and crafted by our foundry.
