Project description:
With extreme precision and accuracy on a one-quarter acre lot, we were tasked with creating a garden that flowed and functioned like an expansive estate. The design program included a Palladian influenced home, centered on the lot, with an under-ground parking garage, multiple exterior terraces, and lush manicured gardens.. The garden program includes an orangerie, swimming pool, Belgium black cobblestone paving, courtyard fountain, and manicured garden hedges for privacy and intimacy.
The gardens were organized using a central axis through the center of the property and a second, crossing axis, which organized the orangerie, swimming pool, and ornamental garden.
From the street, the home is tucked behind massive laurel hedging. As you enter the property you are immediately transported into the story of the home and garden, forgetting that you are surrounded by other homes on a residential street. The parking court if flanked by a laurel topiary pillars. As you entire the front courtyard you stop to admire the fountain, gazing upward to take in the beautiful Palladian architecture. The entry is accessed via a split curved staircase walking you up to the front terrace which overlooks the front courtyard and parking court.
If you enter the front doors and walk straight through, you land on the back terrace. The terrace is raised, overlooking the swimming pool, The east staircase takes you to the orangerie, and the west staircase takes you to the ornamental garden. These spaces are tightly proportioned and intimate, but without the feeling of being closed in and isolated.
